The book contains private essays on arts history and collaborators of the Russian National Library, who worked there from the late XVIIIth till the beginning of the XXth centuries. The activities of each of them are traced against the background of the cultural history of the Russian State at a definite historical period. The author of the book points out basic trends of the Russian arts studies and their application in works of art historians of the Library.
