Muravyov Nikolay Nikolayevich (Karsky) (July 14, 1794 – October 18, 1866), the governor of the Caucasus, the member of the State Council. He was in the Army since 1811, participated in the wars of 1812-14. Organizer of the pre-Decemberist organization “The sacred guild”, a member of the secret society of the Decembrists. Participated in the Turkish and Polish campaigns. In 1833 Muravyov Nikolay Nikolayevich was appointed the chief of the task group aimed to protect the Sultan from the Egyptian Pasha, Mehemet Ali. Muravyov Nikolay Nikolayevich was commissioned the adjutant general, commanded a division. In 1838-48 he was retired. In 1854 he was appointed the governor of the Caucasus and commander of the Caucasian army.
