The last, unfinished novel by writer Pauls Bankovskis is dedicated to the life and work of the unique, provocative artist, set designer, screenwriter and teacher Arnolds Plaudis (1927-2008). The work is based on biographical facts, but at the same time it is not entirely documentary, because it was important for the writer to express his own perspective on both his hero and the era. In separately developed, non-chronologically arranged episodes, the author portrays the formation of a creative personality in the difficult conditions of the Soviet occupation regime, while also emphasizing that during these decades, the creative environment actively flourished in the search for new forms that were different from "correct" art, rebellious. This work fills an important niche not only in Latvian literature, but also in art history, because the name of Arnolds Plaudis is not as widely known among readers and art lovers as the artist would have deserved.
