The book deals with the history of development of underwater navigation and submarines in the Russian imperial fleet from the Peter the Great epoch till the revolution of 1917. One of the chapters is devoted to the history of the world development of underwater navigation from the antiquity and up to the beginning of the XXth century. Special attention is given to the construction and the design of submarines.
