The dictionary represents an etymology collection of the Russian basic vocabulary. On the basis of the modern philological achievements the following issues are examined: the origin and history of the Russian language vocabulary including a considerable number of proper names and geographical appellations, as well as etymology of dialectal and Old Russian vocabulary. The information is arranged in an alphabetical order according to the words examined. There are also analogies from other Slavic and non-Slavic languages for certain lexemes.
