Pressburg bakers belonged to important burghers from the Middle Ages to the end of the 'long' 19th century. Their names and addresses were well known, as the townspeople bought fresh bread and fragrant pastries from them daily. Some bakers went even further and promoted their craft to art. Their creations - sweet biscuits and poppy and walnut bags - made Pressburg famous in European royal courts and overseas, and became a symbol of the city. The book will take us in the footsteps of Pressburg bakers' masters and their specialties. The fates of bakers are illustrated by pictures, excerpts from the period press and stories of specific people.
