This book is the first full-length monograph attempting to comprehensively describe the creation and functioning of the Plock Voivodeship from 1975 to 1998, and its impact on the lives of its inhabitants. It provides an outline of the region's history, a description of its natural environment, and a description of its cultural and economic conditions. The author presents these against the backdrop of social and political events, such as the June 1976 uprising, which was turbulent in Plock and is mentioned in this context just after the June events in Radom and Ursus. He also devotes considerable attention to other important political phenomena, such as August 1980, the birth and "carnival of Solidarity," martial law, the fall of communism, and the difficult political and economic transformation of the 1990s.
