The collection includes documents and materials from the middle of the XVI - first half of the XIX century, that reveal the progressive process of political rapprochement, historical interaction and the gradual incorporation of Kabarda and Balkaria into the Russian judicial, administrative and socio-economic system in the 1850s. The archives that had been prepared for the publication but not included in 1957 in the collection of documents «Kabardian and Russian Relations in the XVI- XVIII centuries» comprise a large group of these documents as well as the materials of many of the pre-revolutionary and Soviet publications that have long been a bibliographic rarity.
