The radical revision of Soviet religious policy that took place in 1943 and made it possible to restore the organizational structures of the Russian Orthodox Church had a downside – the establishment of tight agent control by the security agencies over all aspects of legal church life. Based on the recently declassified archives of the former KGB of the Ukrainian SSR, this study reconstructs for the first time the personal composition of the agent network in the post-war Orthodox episcopate of Ukraine, highlights the specific tasks assigned to the agent bishops, and the methods of controlling their work.
