In recent times, there has been a conceptual shift in the understanding of modernism, which has come to be known as “new studies of modernism.” These studies have proposed new principles of classification, chronology, and interdisciplinary understanding of modernism. In his book, Eduard Weisband tests and develops these principles in relation to Russian modernism as a full-fledged participant in the international movement of “new” art. Particular attention is paid to a comparative analysis of the poetry of V. Khodasevich and O. Mandelstam from the point of view of their common ideological and aesthetic principles, which the author, following Western researchers, calls the “moderate pole” of modernism, contrasting it with the “radical pole.”
