The present collection comprises the best examples of investigations in the field of ecological history, a new fast-developing trend in the modern historical investigations, which studies the history of relationships between the man and nature. Ecologic history appeared in the 1970s and was stimulated by the public interest in the environmental problems and nature protection. From that time historians specializing in ecology are trying to help ecologists by discovering the historical causes of the modern ecologic problems. But first of all, ecological history is an innovative intellectual undertaking, which is urged to enlarge the interpretation of the role of nature in development of human civilization and the role of civilization in life of the planet.
