The monograph by Andrey Ivanovich Popov focuses on one of the most well-known and compelling aspects of the Patriotic War of 1812 (the people’s and partisan war). Thanks to the efforts of Soviet writers, this aspect has, in the consciousness of generations of Russians, merged into a single inseparable concept. The book explores the problems of the "people’s partisan movement" in greater depth and breadth, analyzing the actions of partisan detachments and local militias. The main aim of this research is to clarify the essence of the partisan war and the contribution it made to the outcome of the campaign. In addition to drawing on new sources, the author carefully re-examines even those sources previously considered well-studied.
