The monograph examines the accusations against the defendants in the "Leningrad case" of using their official position for personal gain. During the inspections conducted in Leningrad by employees of financial bodies, party control, state control and other party and state authorities, numerous cases of illegal spending of state funds and material resources were revealed. Among them are the purchase of luxury items in besieged Leningrad at state expense, as well as trophy property in Germany. In addition, the organization of banquets during the difficult war and post-war times, the "squandering" of food products during the blockade, the removal of food and textiles from besieged Leningrad to provide for the evacuated families of the city's leaders. The satiated life of the highest Leningrad authorities, material enrichment at state expense against the backdrop of the horrific Leningrad everyday life became an important factor in the decision to harshly punish the defendants in the "Leningrad case".
