Alexander P. Klyagin (1884 - 1952) was a man of an unusual fate, railway engineer, a Russian emigre, who lived from 1913 in France. This book is written at the insistence of I. Bunin and represents a series of fictionalized stories about the adventures of the author in Eastern Siberia in 1910 – 1912, where he had served in the construction of the Trans-Siberian Railway. Along the way, the narrator tells in an entertaining way a lot of interesting ethnographic details, expresses his views on the future of Siberia.
