A book about the moral values of the Japanese people. In the early 20th century, French researcher Henry Dumolard noted that the Japanese have their own kind of logic and make conclusions which are often puzzling to Europeans. In order to understand the Japanese, we need to know the values which are at the core of their culture. The geography, mythology, religion, and history of Japan can help us in the process. The author of the book, Bratislav Ivanov, is a Bulgarian linguist who studied Japanese language and literature at Moscow State University and finished a postgraduate course at the Japanese Language Institute of Tokyo's Japan Foundation. He has written many articles and books about the language, history, and culture of Japan and has translated classical Japanese poetry. In 2009, on a proposal by the Japanese government and on behalf of Emperor Akihito, Ivanov was awarded the Order of the Rising Sun for his contribution to academic research on the Japanese language and its dissemination in Bulgaria.
