In her book, ethnologist Lucie Uhlíkova addresses the issue of cultural stereotypes associated with Jews and Judaism in the song folklore of the Czech lands. She focuses on the analysis of the image of the Jewish minority, which was formed in a traditional environment and further reproduced through folk songs, as well as other folklore genres. The book can be considered a contribution to the understanding of ethnic stereotypes and the principles of their formation, functioning and reception in the field of so-called folk culture. The author works with folklore as a historical source, the analysis of which requires a specific way of reading the text. The monograph is thus a significant contribution to the field of imagology, i.e. historically anchored shared images that form the basis for the history of mentalities and emotions. At the same time, it is an attempt to critically evaluate the cultural heritage drawing on traditional folk culture and its intergenerational transmission.
