Sergei Shchegolev was the greatest researcher of the problem of "Ukrainian" separatism and the author of two fundamental works devoted to the above mentioned theme. In 1919 he was executed for his "Russian" ideas together with a group of other "patriots". The book is a collection works in which the author dissects Ukrainian history and the phenomenon of Ukrainian separatism and subjects it to acute criticism considering Ukraine as the Southern Region of the Russian Empire.
