On May 20, 2019, the presentation of the third edition of the collection “The War Known ... and Unknown” was held at the Leonid Levin Historical Workshop. The collection contains unique materials about the period of the fascist occupation of the BSSR in 1941-1944. These are articles by famous scientists about the Holocaust, the Righteous of the peoples of the world, the activities of the Orthodox Church during the Great Patriotic War. The collection contains documents and articles on the events of World War II in the region of Osipovichi, a city in the Mogilev region. The compiler of the collection is Neonila Tsyganok, a teacher-methodologist, teacher of history and social studies at the State Educational Institution “Secondary School No. 2 of Osipovichi”. Together with the students, she studied important material of evidence on the history of the Holocaust, righteousness, resistance to Nazism during the Second World War. The book is a collective work, it presents articles by scientists, studies of schoolchildren and teachers, memories of eyewitnesses and victims.
Welcoming remarks were made by Viktor Balakirev, Director of the Minsk International Educational Center named after J. Rau. Israeli Ambassador Alon Shogam spoke in a welcoming speech about the importance of those questions to the Second World War that each generation poses for itself. German Ambassador Peter Dettmar noted the lively narrative of the book, which is not limited to numbers, but reveals the tragedy of World War II through specific destinies and events. In his opinion, history never ends and is not abstract knowledge. On the contrary, the knowledge and interpretation of history ultimately translates into social behavior that can help preserve the world. The collection contributes to the dissemination of this knowledge.
