In the 1970s, the world, to everyone's surprise, learned that the first gold, the first king, and the first civilization appeared on the western coast of the Black Sea in the area of today's city of Varna. We know very little about the Chalcolithic Varna civilization and its end, and we have no idea of the traces it left behind, given the millennia that have passed in oblivion and the lack of written evidence.
