"Black Council. Chronicle of 1663" is the first historical novel-chronicle in Ukrainian literature, which depicts the period of Ukraine's disintegration into two parts - Right Bank and Left Bank. The final split of the country was sealed by the Black Council, which took place in June 1663 in Nizhyn and marked the beginning of the decline of the Hetmanship. After the death of Bohdan Khmelnytskyi, a fierce struggle for the hetman's mace began.
