Compiled by Nikita Romanov (1905-1960), a teacher, tireless collector and researcher. The publication, prepared with the participation of the Chuvash State Institute of Humanities, includes more than 2,500 proverbs and sayings and 1,700 riddles. Each example is given in Chuvash and Russian. Different peoples often have the same proverbs in meaning and content. The artistic works of Chuvash writers are also used as a source: Konstantin Ivanov, Nikolai Vasiliev (Shubossinni), Ilya Efimov (Thti), Semyon Elger, Peter Khuzangai, Alexander Artemyev, Arkady Eskhel, Stepan Aslan, Nikolai Ilbekov, and others.
