The book by E.Tursunov, Candidate of Philological Science is devoted to the investigation of origin and development of the ancient Turk folklore and aitys genre in particular. The author shows that primitive mythology on the last stage of its being, legends and historical songs after having come through the stage of the everyday life songs, created the basis for the formation of the heroic epos. The researcher underlines the importance of odes-maktau, which are considered to be the first attempts of historical songs of praise performed to glorify the deeds of brave batyrs and military leaders.
