Yanka Mavr is a Belarusian Soviet writer, translator and playwright. One of the founders of Belarusian children's literature, the founder of the adventure and scientific-educational genres in Belarusian literature, the creator of the first Belarusian science fiction story. Author of books for children, plays, translations. Member of the Union of Writers of the USSR (1934). Member of the CPSU (b) since 1950. Laureate of the Dzyarzhan Prize of the Belarusian SSR (1968). Deserved of the dzeyach of the culture of the BSSR (1968). In the country of the bird of paradise
In the story "In the country of the bird of paradise" the action takes place in New Guinea, on the islands of the Pacific Ocean, which were visited by the traveler Mikluha-Maklai, a researcher of the local inhabitants - Papuans. The story is built on a social conflict, on the drawing of two opposing forces - the oppressed and the colonizing masters.
Son of water
The story "Son of Water", the most poetic in this cycle, according to the author's own admission, was the most dear to him. The plot line of the main character, the young fire-earther Mango, is based on a scheme common in adventure literature: the rescue of a white man from wild natives.
The psychological miniature "Happiness" (1945) is based on emotional tension, on internal conflict. There are no external events in the story, the plot is determined by the psychological clash of the world of childhood and the world of adults against the background of serene nature. But in this small story there are dramatic changes in the mental state of the characters, the inner movement of their moods and experiences. The psychological problem touched by the author in the story shows how the world of adults and the world of childhood interact, and the relationship between them, which is of interest to both adult and children's literature.
