The confrontation between the ethnic population of Eastern Turkestan and governments of mainland China have lasted for more than 120 years since Eastern Turkestan was invaded by the Manchu rulers of China in 1876. After this invasion, Eastern Turkestan was given the name Xinjiang and annexed to the territory of the Manchu empire in 1884. In 1911, Nationalist Chinese, under the leadership of Sun Yat Sen, overthrew the Manchu ruler in China and established a republic. In 1949 the Nationalist Chinese were defeated by the Chinese Communists, after which Eastern Turkestan fell under Chinese Communist rule. During all the period of Chinese invasion Turkestani people struggle for independence. But, from the point of view of Communist government of China, this struggle is a manifestation of separatism, and thus must be suppressed. The offered book, printed by a government publishing house, presents this very point of view.
