The State Border Service of Ukraine (SBSU) was established on August 1, 2003 as a special-purpose law enforcement agency. Its creation was the result of significant transformations and long-term reform of the border troops of the former USSR on the territory of Ukraine. It was this agency that was tasked with ensuring the inviolability of the state border of Ukraine and protecting the sovereign rights of Ukraine in its exclusive (maritime) economic zone. The activities of the State Border Service of Ukraine are carried out in accordance with the Laws of Ukraine, Decrees of the President of Ukraine, Resolutions of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, as well as international acts and treaties of Ukraine ratified by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine. The Russian aggression in 2014 and the full-scale invasion of the aggressor troops in February 2022 made their adjustments.
