The publication examines the main problems of the development of the USSR from 1929 (approval of the leadership group of I.V. Stalin) to 1945 (Victory of the Soviet people in the Great Patriotic War). Stalinism is presented as a complex political and socio-economic phenomenon of Russian history, in the dynamics of positive and negative sides, objective and subjective factors. Particular attention is paid to political repression, the development of the Red Army, the reasons and consequences of the unsuccessful start of the war for the Soviet Union. Sergey Grigorievich Osmachko is the Doctor of Historical Sciences.
