The book was compiled by the famous Lithuanian mythologist and folklorist Norbertas Velius. The publication presents mythological information found in the ancient Baltic religious and mythological sources with exceptional accuracy. Commentaries and indices are presented at the minimum. Special attention is paid to the oldest source materials that describe the ancient Baltic peoples' way of life and customs, and to the collection and classification of those materials.
