The book was compiled by the famous Lithuanian mythologist and folklorist Norbertas Velius. With great accuracy the publication presents mythological information found in the ancient Baltic religious and mythological sources. The scientific materials such as commentaries and indices are presented at the minimum. The book pays more attention to the oldest source materials that describe the ancient Balts' way of life and customs, to the collection and systematization of those materials.
