New book by Oksana Slipushko "Sophia of Kyiv. Medieval Ukrainian Literature (Xth-XIIIth centuries)" is one of the first books devoted to Ukrainian medieval literature. It is an interesting scientific and popular discourse of Kyiv-Rus literature and literary centers. The book consists of three main chapters. Chapter I "Pre-Christian medieval literature" deals with the ancient stage of Ukrainian spiritual and cultural evolution, that is ancient Greek culture on Ukrainian lands, Slavonic pantheon and pagan artistic and aesthetic ideology. Chapter II "Literary context of the Christian Middle Ages" contains a review of the most notable phenomena of the medieval Christian literature, style and genres, translated literature, code of chivalrous conduct in heroic tales, literary schools of Kyiv and the Galician-Volhynian Principality. Chapter III "Personalities and Literary Monuments" consists of 21 reviews devoted to an individual author or work.
