The book is a sequel of the 3d vol. of the fundamental series “History of the Far East of Russia”. On the base of the methodology of contemporary social history for the first time, there represented a complex picture of society and power transformation in the region during the period of “mature socialism” in the USSR (1960—1985). There characterized Soviet positions in the Asia Pacific region as an external factor in working out state strategy in the Far Eastern region. Social structure is analyzed on the base of the concept of political stratification, the formation of mixed type of society in conjunction with features of industrial and consumers’ types is shown. There revealed the holistic regional process of transformation “classes” of those governing ones and those being governed, the transition from wage-levelling to a new social stratification. There is given a characteristic of the basic trends of demographic development and ethnic history of the region. There revealed the evolution of forms of its migration replenishment and labor providing, demonstrating gradual transition from mobilized methods to self-regulating processes. There is given an estimate of the region in the economic system of the country in the conditions of late Soviet modernization. The culture of the Far East is analyzed as an unified (mono-stylistic) system. There are shown its achievements, limitations and the beginning of forming values of alternative (poly-stylistic) cultural model. Conclusions are made on the base of analyzing wide circle of sources, methodological and historiographic achievements of the Russian and world humanitarian science, reflect a new level of knowledge of Soviet socium, economic, political and cultural processes, regional specificity.
