What did the man and the world look like through the prism of socialist realism, the main method of soviet art? What was the essence of the method, interpreted today as dictatorship of the party imperative, dominating over the soviet art and artist? Why was socialist realism so important for the dominating ideology if it was only a method of art? And, from the other hand, if it is only an ideological imperative, why did the art, which became a part of the world culture, appear on its basis? These and other contradictions are the main subject of the research, where the author tries to lead the phenomenon of socialist realism out from the sphere of ideologies and myths into the area of a scientific analysis.
