The monograph provides insight into a long period of the 20th century in the field of social and educational care of children. The author pays attention to the definition of the terms child and childhood, reflects on the factors determining the very form and quality of children's existence, while from a historical perspective she points out various categories of children at risk. She describes the emergence and development of social and educational care of children from the period of the democratic interwar republic to the period of socialism and communism, or rather from voluntary care to care carried out by state power. In conclusion, she pays attention to social and educational care of children in two collective facilities - in kindergartens and in school after-school clubs. She describes not only the initial steps of their emergence and subsequent development in terms of legislation and organization, but through the analysis of educational programs she pays attention to the implementation of social and educational activities that the declared collective facilities provided.
