It is the most complete book on the history of the Slavs at the threshold of the Middle Ages. The Vth - first half of the VIth centuries is the period when the Slavs first appeared on the historical scene under their own name, and foundations of the Slavic nationhood were laid. The second half of the VIth century is characterized by the Slavs’ active participation in the developments related to the invasion of Avar tribes in Europe.
