A unique publication dedicated to the history of the Skoda brand, which has become famous all over the world. The author summarises the history of Skoda car production from the very beginnings under the Austro-Hungarian Empire, when the "Laurin & Klement bicycle factory" was established, to the change in political and economic conditions in the Czechoslovakia, and traces the transformation of production and the spread of the Skoda reputation around the world. It then focuses on the success of Skoda passenger cars in the famous races in which both Laurin & Klement and Skoda cars have participated since the very beginning of motor sport.
The author has lived in the UK for a long time and is thus able to convey the brand's acceptance beyond the borders of the former Eastern Bloc: he illustrates the initial distance and later recognition by British customers by, among other things, contemporary reviews of several Skoda models in motoring magazines.
In addition to these valuable and little-known documents, the book also includes an extensive illustrative accompaniment consisting of period promotional material in addition to photographs.
