The publication includes the first published manuscript by V. S. Manassein, director of the library in 1925-1930, the first researcher of the book collection V. N. Basnin, which reveals interesting facts from the life of an Irkutsk merchant, highlights the cultural life of Irkutsk in the 19th century, tells about the first book collections and their owners. The collection of the bibliophile is described in detail. The catalog, systematized in accordance with the structure used by V. N. Basnin himself, has 1247 bibliographic records on religion, jurisprudence, history, geography, mathematics, art, linguistics and other branches with a chronological coverage from 1694 to 1875.
