The author of the book spent over 7 years working as the secretary of the laureate of the Noble Prize, noted Soviet writer Mikhail Sholokhov. Texts of the writer's conversations with various people, chronicle of the events, taken from Zimovnov's diary as well as publications of documents from Sholokhov's archives underlie the edition. The true biographical data of the book differ it from other "embroidered" works about the Soviet writer.
