The book by Mark Uralsky is dedicated to the life and work of the poet in 1913-1918. Based on a large body of documentary materials and memoirs of contemporaries, it reflects both the literary and political evolution of the poet. The chronological framework chosen by the author includes both the early period of Yesenin's entry into literature - the "Surikov Circle" and subsequent participation in the community of "new peasant poets", and the contextual area around the poet's reaction to the October Revolution. The author manages to demonstrate the main phenomenon of Yesenin's dialectic, which consists in his amazing sensitivity to the literary "noise of the time" and, as a consequence, in the amazingly rapid qualitative development of Yesenin the poet.
