You don’t have to be a hunter to be captivated by the stories collected in this book. It brings together some of the finest writings about hunting, penned by residents of Saratov over the course of half a century. Among the authors are both recognized literary figures such as V. S. Vakhtin and well-known commentators and writers, as well as passionate storytellers who have managed to convey the unique atmosphere and thrill of real hunting.
The texts featured in the collection were originally published in editions that have since become bibliographic rarities.
Most of the stories are accompanied by brief biographical notes on their authors, compiled from archival materials of the Saratov branch of the Hunters and Fishers Union, publications by N. G. Trofimov, other researchers of the hunting tradition, and recollections of family and friends.
