The present book suggests a different from the official one view point on the offensive military operations of the soviet army on the territories of Rzhev and Vyazma ledge in 1942-1943. Basing on the official documents, the author tells about the feats and tragedies of soldiers from the 39th army and 11th cavalry brigade during the encirclement in July, 1942. For the first time in the Russian historical science the author examines prehistory of Rzhev and Vyazma operation of 1943. She tries to define the reasons for the failure of strategic plans of the Red Army, for the encirclement and defeat of the “Center” group of armies. Special attention is paid to the activities of G.K.Zhukov as the commander of the Western front.
