The issue comprises biographies of fifty distinguished painters of the XVIIIth - beginning of the XXth centuries. Russian painting is characterized by the rapid development of the national school during a very short historical period. Russian painting started its development in the XVIIth - XVIIIth centuries and by the end of the XVIIIth century it already reached the European level. Biographies and pictures are arranged in chronological order and divided into three parts according to the periods of Russian art development.
