This joint FIIA - Carnegie Moscow Center report contains three different, but complementary perspectives on topical issues of present-day interrelations between Russia and the European Union. The authors examine in detail what went right and wrong with the guiding documents of bilateral relations and offer their conclusions on whether, and in which respects, they are up to the task set for them. Analysis of the main impediments that hinder cooperation is juxtaposed with a list of areas where it would be quite feasible and mutually beneficial. Looking to the future, the authors take a stand of cautious optimism as they recognize strong, although asymmetrical, interests that drive the sides together, and positively estimate the results of the learning process that has taken place.
