The book was prepared as part of the author’s development of a new scientific direction – Cryoanthropology, aimed at identifying the positions of natural low temperatures in the formation of a unique culture of aboriginal ethnic groups of the Russian Arctic. The presented study is the first monographic work devoted to the study of the historical evolution of the role of cryogenic resources in the life support system of the population of the northern territories of Russia. On the example of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) the importance of cold, snow, ice and permafrost in the traditional economic and sociocultural practices of the rural population of the region is shown, their evolution is traced under the influence of modernization processes in the Soviet period of the national history.
