New principles of developing strategies for sustainable development of regions are formulated, including ensuring the linking of the economic, social and environmental aspects of regional development, partnership, horizontal and vertical balance, etc. The content of regional strategic planning is disclosed. The main components of the mechanism for developing regional sustainable development strategies in Belarus are substantiated. Particular attention is paid to the selection of regional development priorities. As a new component of regional strategic planning, the so-called civic component or the inclusion of the local community in the process of developing and discussing the Strategy is considered.
