On the basis of many ancient sources preserved, the author of the book restores and makes an overall analysis of different aspects of the Pythagorean musical theory: diverse opinions regarding reasons for origin of a sound, peculiarities of its spread and perception, opinions on a musical sound and its difference from a non-musical one, a teaching about intervals, differentiation between “symphonic” and “diaphonic” musical sounds, Pythagorean methods of the canon division.
