The book represents the analysis of many-sided aspects of nature and culture of Zhitomirschina - one of the most ancient centers for the Slavonic people ethnogeny. The authors raise the questions concerning the problem of protection and conservation of the unique monuments of nature and the Ukrainian culture on the territories contaminated with radioactive wastes after Chernobyl calamity. The book includes the unique ethnographic materials published for the first time that were gathered in different times and different regions of Ukraine. The book has been illustrated with the postcards of the pre-revolution period from the personal archives of the authors.
