The book presents the first full biography of Princess Dorothea von Lieven (December 17, 1785 - January 27, 1857), a Russian noblewoman and wife of Prince Khristofor Andreyevich Lieven, the Russian ambassador to London. The book is written on the basis of unpublished archival documents and extensive epistolary heritage of Dorothea von Lieven. It tells about the work of this extraordinary woman in London, where Prince Lieven served as ambassador for twenty-two years, and in Paris, where she lived for the last twenty two years of her life.
