The book is about the visibilities through which political power is manifested. Visibility should be understood not as a substance existing in objective forms or subjective illusions, but rather as the self-revelation of power through concealment, and vice versa. Power should be regarded not as a political superstructure (political parties and government), but rather as a specific order of arrangement of the political field as a field of power and the government as a form of political power.
