A.N.Ostrovsky managed to convey both the state of a man in the domestic life and his fate, regardless of national identity. That’s why the creative work of this Russian author has not only national, but universal, generally cultural meaning. It reveals the spiritual tasks, which the contemporaries in Russia face: to take a step from the archaic epoch, which acted regardless of individual being, to the new one, where the majority of problems can be solved with personal efforts. Ostrovsky was the first on Russian stage, who declared that this spiritual task should become the main one for Russian theatre character.
