The work represents detailed biography of the Russian emperor, a version of his life viewed through the framework of Russian and world history. The biography written by R.Massy, a famous American historian, of the St.Petersburg founder is based on large foreign historical material. The edition is supplied with over 500 illustrations and the article by S.Moiseeva, a St.Petersburg art scientist, about iconography of Peter the Great. The appendix to the second volume includes facsimile of civil alphabet of 1710 keeping autographic notes by Peter the Great.
