Recent years have witnessed the progress of research into domestic equipment of different countries. This problem attracts the attention of a growing number of historians who regard them as a new source for studying questions of prosperity, differences in living conditions of diverse social classes, etc. Two international conferences of historians - in Wageningen in 1980 and in Bern in 1986 - were entirely devoted to the study of domestic equipment. Thanks to the proposed edition the reader can get acquainted with their results.
